forensicsは、科学的捜査全般にわたって使われる言葉ですが、最も一般的なのは、DNA鑑定のような生体検査を指す場合でしょうか。コンピュータ系の犯罪でも使われ、その場合は、ウイルスやマルウェアに感染した時間帯や経路、流出したファイルの有無の検査をするとき等に用いられます。日本語で「フォレンジック」というと、この手のハイテク犯罪に関する捜査・検査に使われることが多いようですね。
