最近アメリカでは機関車事故が頻繁に起きているのですが、死者7人を出す大事故は稀ですので、報道各社はどこもトップニュースとして伝えています。

私などは、列車脱線事故と言えば、すぐJR西日本の福知山線事故（2005年4月25日発生、死者107名）を思い出します。あの事故では、運転士が死亡しているので、時速70キロの制限速度が設けられているカーブに対して、何故116キロで突っ込んでいったのか真相はわからないままです。

この事故で、運転士が怪我しているかどうか、私が聞いた範囲では判りませんでしたが、事故直後に弁護士を雇い入れ、原因調査に対して、積極的に対応しているとは言いがたいようで、その事も運転士に対する不信感に結び付いているようです。
