A spokesperson for the forces said on Friday a town south of Tikrit is now under their control. But state-run media said the militants are determined to resist to the end.

It said before their withdrawal, the militants had set explosives on roads that government forces will use. Media also said local residents are being used as human shields.
Iraq's current military campaign is considered as a test for the government forces before its launches an attack to retake the country's second-largest city Mosul, the militants' largest stronghold.

「イラク軍スポークスマンは、金曜日、ティクリートの南部が彼らの支配下になった発表した。しかし、過激派は最後まで抵抗を示し、撤退前に、道路に爆発物を仕掛けたり、市民を人間の盾として使う模様だとも伝えています。今回のイラク軍の攻勢は、イラク第二の都市で、ISISの拠点であるモスル奪還のテストとして位置づけられています。」

アメリカを始めとする同盟国の支援を受けて、鍛え直されたイラク軍がいよいよ攻勢に出るようです。尤も、敵もその間しっかり戦略を練っていたでしょうから簡単にはいかないだろうとのこと、当然ですね。

CNNも今回の攻勢は、モスル奪還へのテストの位置づけにあると伝えています。勿論ISISもこれらの報道を確認しているでしょうから、わざと嘘の報道を流して、実はあっと驚く奇襲作戦が展開されるんじゃないかなと密かに期待をしています。
